About

What is this?

As I near the end of a culmination of  several years of schooling, I have come to realize that I know what often seems like next-to-nothing about my chosen field of study.  … Okay, perhaps this is a bit of an overstatement.  … No, no it’s not.  I listen to my professors speak on their topics of specialty in complete awe… The effortless recollection of knowledge, the people they’ve worked with, their passion, the music.

So, in the attempt to join the ranks of the all-knowing-demi-Gods whom I have come to admire and respect, enter the millennial medium of blogging!  I’m not entirely certain what my end goal is for this blog- currently it will serve as a sort of personal study guide of all-things-music for myself and any others who may happen to find it helpful.  If this garners any traction beyond friends and family, wonderful!

Since I write in an academic (*cough*) style so frequently, I fully intend for this to be a much more casual voice.  Feel free to comment and critique as you please– I welcome any corrections!  I’d hate to think Ockeghem’s father was a dragon slayer if he actually weren’t.

My dear colleague, Bryan Kostors, has offered to be a co-contributor, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to share mind-space with him.

Tallyn Wesner is currently pursuing a DMA in clarinet performance at Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University and studies with Maureen Hurd-Hause.  She holds a Masters of Music from The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (student of Marina Sturm) and a Bachelors of Music from The University of New Mexico (student of Keith Lemmons).  She has also studied with David Howard of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Maxine Ramey at The University of Montana.  While working on her Masters, she held the principal clarinet seat of the Henderson Symphony Orchestra and freelanced with various local groups, including Sin City Opera and the Las Vegas Sinfonietta.  When not at Mason Gross, she can likely be found in the city, attending a performance of magnanimous substance.

Bryan is working on a DMA in composition at the Thornton School of Music at The University of Southern California.  (I’m not writing his bio… so… if this gets up and running and he provides me with a blurp, I’ll paste it here!)
